Designed by Massimiliano Locatelli for CLS Architects, Runway is the first major concept store in Saigon stocking Hussein Chalayan, Balenciaga and Lanvin to name a few.
The space is designed to look like an ice cave which is in cool contrast to the tropical heat of Ho Chi Minh.
And the main attraction? The reflective Cocoon shaped VIP lounge in the centre of the store. The pulsating heart of the project, it is fully clad in 12,899 stainless steel scales.

A hundred years after the first performance given by Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, the company’s founding genius is honoured in a programme of specially commissioned dance. In The Spirit Of Diaghilev showcases four new works, each inspired by some aspect of the impresario’s collaborative and innovative spirit. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Javier De Frutos work with music used or commissioned by Diaghilev, Cherkaoui creating a new version of L’Après Midi d’un Faune, with additional music by Nitin Sawhney and costumes by Hussein Chalayan, and De Frutos using Ravel’s score La Valse to channel the flamboyant creativity of Jean Cocteau, one of the liveliest artists in Diaghilev’s inner circle. Also in the programme is Wayne McGregor’s Dyad 1909, working with artists and film-makers Jane and Louise Wilson, and Russell Maliphant’s take on the drawings and paintings of the doomed genius Vaslav Nijinsky. THE ART OF FASHION: INSTALLING ALLUSIONS
19 September 2009 – 10 January 2010
The Art of Fashion is the current autumn exhibition at The Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen which investigates the borders between fashion and art. It explores today’s fashion designers who work more and more often with installations, performances and sculptural designs and in their turn influence the art world. The Art of Fashion reveals the sparks that fly at the interface between fashion and art.
Hussein Chalayan was one of five designers commissioned to make a new work specifically for the exhibition. The resulting tank installation is entitled MICRO GEOGRAPHY: A CROSS SECTION.
The Art of Fashion has been compiled by guest curators José Teunissen (lecturer at ArtEZ Arnhem) and Judith Clark (exhibition maker, London).
The exhibition was made possible by the H+F Fashion on the Edge programme of author and art collector Han Nefkens, and by the Mondriaan Foundation, SNS Reaal Fonds and the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.
